Wall Street displayed a marked increase on Thursday night ,two hours before closing, stimulated by the accounts considered satisfactory of Micron, Red Hat or even Talbots, and while waiting those of Oracle and Accenture in the technology sector. Portuguese political crisis does not seem disturbing the investors.In the Statistics side, the latest weekly figures for employment in the United States continue to reassure, but the durable goods orders came out disappointing. Finally, operators are always very attentive to developments in Libya and Japan. Crude oil prices remain at high levels on $ 105 a barrel on the Nymex. The DJIA is gaining 0.51% to 12,147 pts, and the Nasdaq is 1.04% at 2,726 points.
The US Labor Department announced that the new weekly registrations in unemployed ,on a rhythm adjusted for seasonal variations, fell by 5,000 for the week closed on March 19, to $ 382,000. A figure in line with expectations since the Bloomberg consensus was counting on 383,000 new claims.
The he average reached 385,250 in four weeks for the period ended March 19. A figure of 1,500 fold compared to the previous week.
Unemployment compensation in the week closed March 12 reached 3%, unchanged from the previous week. The number of unemployed receiving benefits during the same period totaled 3,721,000, down 2,000 from the previous week and the lowest since September 2008.
According to the U.S Department of Commerce on Thursday, new orders for durable goods in the U.S for February 2011 were established in unexpected decline of 0.9% compared to the previous month and down 0.6% excluding transportation . The consensus was +1.2% for controls global and +2.1% excluding transportation. For January, however, growth is revised up to +3.6% for global commands (-3% excluding transportation).
Orders of February totaled $ 200 billion. Shipments, meanwhile, were up 0.3% to $ 203.2 billion. Inventories rose 0.9%.
