Mergers and acquisitions have supported Wall Street

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The trend was to purchas in Wall Street on Monday ,the investors welcomed the announcement of the sale of T-Mobile USA to AT&T by Deutsche Telekom for $ 39 billion,the largest merger-acquisition since the beginning of the year.

AT&T finished up 1.14% to 26.26 dollars after the announcement of the sale of T-Mobile USA in the American group Deutsche Telekom. In its wake, Verizon earned 0.75% to 71.96 dollars.

"The agreement with AT&T is only part of the table. The other part, it is encouraging information from Japan and the fact that the situation does not get worse in Africa," commented Gail Dudack of Dudack Research.

If the prospects of the Japanese economy have nothing gleaming in the short term, the hope of easing the nuclear crisis and the words of Warren Buffet, who believe that Japanese equities are attractive, have supported the trend.

The Dow Jones gained 1.50% or 178.01 points to 12,036.53 points and the Standard & Poor's 500 index 1.50% or 19.18 points to 1298.38 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index has advanced by 1.83% or 48.42 points to 2692.09 points.

The record AT & T / T-Mobile has obscured the release by the National Association of Realtors figures disappointing on the front of the property. The federation of Realtors announced that sales of existing homes decreased in February by 9.6%, a much larger decline than the 4% expected by consensus.

The action of the jeweler Tiffany jumped 5.11% to 60.22 dollars in the wake of the publication by a group with a net profit up to 31.1% to 181.2 million euros in the fourth quarter 2010 and forecasts growth encouraging.

Citigroup announced Monday its intention to reduce the number of shares outstanding and reinstate the dividend, which represents a new step in the recovery of the bank which had been closed due to bankruptcy during the global financial crisis.

In the opinion of many observers, the reverse stock split was essentially an objective psychological and it has not impressed the markets since the title was ended down 1.33% to 4.44 dollars.
